Cadillac exterior styling makes its cars and SUVs instantly recognizable, but the exterior of the 2021 Cadillac XT5 is perhaps a little more subtle and a touch more subdued than some other models, which for some could make this luxury compact crossover even more appealing. Around Thornhill and the Greater Toronto Area the XT5 is a vehicle you’ll be proud to be seen in, whether you’re heading out to the golf club for a round with friends or just dropping the kids off at the mall.
The XT5 lineup is as appropriately compact as the exterior proportions of the vehicle itself with just three different trim levels in the family. The entry model in the 2021 XT5 range is the appropriately named XT5 Luxury, but this one actually comes in two different flavours as this is the only XT5 that comes standard in a front-wheel-drive format. All-wheel-drive is available for the entry model but the two higher trims levels get standard AWD.
In the middle of the lineup for 2021 is the XT5 Premium Luxury, but this isn’t a co-headline model like we see with the XT5’s little brother because the range-topping Sport model doesn’t share the same starting MSRP as the Premium Luxury because the Sport gets a bigger standard powerplant.
The standard powerplant with the 2021 Cadillac XT5 Luxury and Premium Luxury models is a very contemporary 2.0-litre turbo-four that produces 235 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque that goes to the wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. The alternative engine is an impressive 3.6-litre V-6 unit which then gives the XT5 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque to play with, which is again sent to the wheels through a nine-speed auto.
While the V-6 is standard with Sport models and is available as an upgrade for the Premium Luxury version of the XT5, the entry-level Luxury is only available with the turbo-four. However, front-drive versions of the compact Caddy with the 2.0-litre engine are the most fuel-efficient versions of the XT5 with EPA ratings of 22 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg combined.
Unlike some luxury rivals, the entry-level versions of the 2021 Cadillac XT5 really are an attractive proposition with tons of standard luxury and features for a very reasonable price. Standard XT5 Luxury features include 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic on/off IntelliBeam LED headlights, a power liftgate, a premium Bose sound system, an automatic heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors and heated front seats.
With impressive engines, great handling, lots of standard features, and impressive safety ratings, the 2021 Cadillac XT5 is far more than just another luxury ride. The XT5 really is an incredibly impressive all-rounder that will suit a wide variety of different buyers, but the only way to truly appreciate what it has to offer is with a test drive.
