You know it’s huge, you know it’s luxurious, and you probably also assume that it will be mighty powerful, but nothing can properly prepare you for the 2022 Cadillac Escalade experience like actually getting in one and checking it out. There are lots of different ways you can you and your passengers around Thornhill, North York, Markham, Richmond Hill, and the Greater Toronto Area, but it’s hard to think of another that’s spacious, comfortable, luxurious, and enjoyable as it is in a new Escalade.
When you first get to check out the 2022 Escalade in its most affordable form you could be forgiven for thinking it’s a mid-range or even a top-of-the-range model because it looks and feels anything but “entry-level.” However, there are actually five different trim levels in the current Escalade lineup that get progressively more opulent as you go through them. The first model in the range is the Luxury, and then the lineup goes to the Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum, and finally to the range-topping Sport Platinum. And here in Canada, there’s no such thing as a two-wheel-drive Escalade as every one of the five trims comes with standard all-wheel-drive.
This is a model that still uses a truck-like ladder-frame platform, and the 2022 Escalade takes the big truck comparison even further when it comes to the engine options. Like most heavy-duty trucks, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is available with a standard V-8 gasoline engine or an available turbodiesel. The gas engine will be the choice of most prospective purchasers as it’s more than up to the job of propelling this mighty vehicle with appropriate ease even when fully loaded with people and cargo. The unit in question is a 6.2-litre V-8 that puts out 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, which is then sent to all four wheels through a wonderfully smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission.
The alternative is a 3.0-litre turbo-six which then provides the big Caddy with 277 horsepower and that same 460 lb.-ft. of torque, and this one also uses that 10-speed auto to send power to all four wheels. With the available tow package, the 2022 Escalade is rated to tow up to as much as 3,719 kg (8,200 pounds), and V-8 versions can get from 0 to 60 mph in as little as six seconds.
The interior of the Escalade is absolutely vast, and Cadillac has filled it with comfort, luxury, and high-tech features and equipment at every level. If you can think of a feature a vehicle can have today you will probably be able to have it in your new Escalade, and there are also probably one or more features that could be completely new to you.
For example, the 2022 Escalade can be equipped with 19-speaker and even 39-speaker AKG audio systems, rear-seat entertainment, navigation with augmented reality, night-vision, a full-colour head-up display, and even a conversation enhancement feature. Also now available is Super Cruise, which is a genuine hands-free driver assistance technology for divided and compatible highways that includes all-new Automatic Lane Change functionality.
The 2022 Cadillac Escalade is the latest incarnation of an automotive legend, but don’t assume you know all about it and what to expect if you haven’t got up-close and personal with one in a while.
