The 2022 Cadillac XT4 is far more than just another subcompact crossover SUV that drives well and cossets its occupants in an opulent interior. The XT4 is all of that and more, but what might come as a surprise to some is that it can also be an extremely good value for money too. The highest-spec variants loaded up with all the options will still come with an appropriately extravagant price ticket. But entry-level versions of the XT4 still come very generously equipped and attract buyers who may not have imagined in the past that their budget actually allows them to buy a brand-new Cadillac SUV.
It’s probably fair to say that the 2022 Cadillac XT4 model range appears as compact as the vehicle itself, but the three different versions of the XT4 that are currently available really do cover a decent range of specifications and pricing to suit a wide range of prospective buyers. The first and most affordable trim level is the XT4 Luxury, the mid-range variant is called Premium Luxury, and the final model of the three is the XT4 Sport.
Something that might appear a little unusual to you is the Premium Luxury and the Sport trim levels of the XT4 have identical starting MSRPs. This is because the Premium Luxury naturally concentrates on delivering a pure luxury experience, but the Sport model provides something a little different by taking a sportier slant on Cadillac’s luxury subcompact SUV format. There’s a pretty significant gap between the starting MSRPs of the entry-level Luxury version of the XT4 and the two co-headline trim levels, but that only further illustrates what great value for money the XT4 Luxury can represent.
Although a single powerplant is utilized for all versions of the 2022 Cadillac XT4 lineup, there is a choice when it comes to drivetrains. The XT4 at the Luxury trim level is standard front-wheel-drive with all-wheel-drive available as an option, but Premium Luxury and Sport variants get the additional capability of AWD as part of their standard specifications.
The engine in question is a very contemporary 2.0-litre turbo-four that certainly isn’t to be found wanting for power as it produces 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque that goes to the front or all four wheels through a superb nine-speed automatic transmission. The 0-60mph time of the XT4 is a relatively modest 7.35 seconds, but this compact SUV still manages to deliver a lively and engaging driving experience at the same time as providing the driver and passengers with the kind of comfort and luxury they expect from a Cadillac.
Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels are bursting with standard features and can be specified to an extremely high level to include just about any SUV, but the XT4 Luxury certainly shouldn’t be overlooked as it’s a genuinely enticing and desirable model that’s priced at a level that easily competes with the highest trim levels of non-luxury rivals. This makes the XT4 an attractively affordable gateway model for the Cadillac brand.
It’s actually pretty laughable to refer to the XT4 Luxury as a ‘base model’ as it comes with 18-inch alloys, Automatic Emergency Braking, heated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel, LED headlights, a power liftgate, a seven-speaker audio system, Adaptive Remote Start, dual-zone automatic climate control, an HD Rear Vision Camera, Rear Park Assist, and a wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible infotainment system.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 is a subcompact crossover SUV that more than lives up to its luxury billing, but it’s also extremely engaging to drive and can even be deceptively affordable compared to its rivals.
