An entirely new beginning
Apart from words like stylish, comfortable, luxurious, opulent, prestigious, classy, and premium, we’re probably going to have to come up with a new way of thinking about Cadillac as a brand going forward. That’s because the all-new 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ is more than just a completely new addition to the Cadillac family; the LYRIQ actually represents the first sight of an entirely new direction for the brand.
The LYRIQ isn’t just the first-ever all-electric vehicle from Cadillac. The LYRIQ is the first new vehicle to be produced under the company’s new direction of every new Cadillac model now being all-electric. This also isn’t just an existing Cadillac SUV that’s been tweaked and converted to use an all-electric powertrain as the LYRIQ is an entirely new model from the ground up.
Cadillac has really thought hard about where to place this exciting new model in the market as this five-seat crossover SUV is going to be more competitively priced than its current rivals, and it’s also expected to boast a driving range on a full charge of more than 480 km. Add into the mix the stunning styling and what promises to be a fabulously luxurious and hi-tech interior and Cadillac appears to have got it all right with its first-ever EV.
Simply stunning to behold
Automakers have quite a challenge with how to design the front fascia of an EV because the lack of an internal combustion engine means there’s no need for a grille at the front. Some choose to go with some sort of fake grille to retain a conventional aesthetic, but the LYRIQ has a crest-shaped “grille” stitched by lights onto the front fascia which illuminates differently as the driver approaches or walks away from the vehicle.
Of course, the face is just one part of what goes to make the LYRIQ one of the most modern and visually stunning EVs currently in the pipeline. The LYRIQ looks amazing and extremely futuristic from every angle, but it still manages to stay conventional enough to avoid becoming polarizing.
Important facts and figures
What we know so far about the LYRIQ’s electric powertrain is it will feature a 100-kWh battery pack in the vehicle’s floor between the axles, and this integrated EV platform will boast a low centre of gravity and a perfect 50/50 weight distribution for great handling. Initially, one motor will be used to drive the rear wheels and it promises a range above 480 km. It’s also going to produce an impressive 340 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque, but additional powertrains will eventually become available with dual motors, all-wheel-drive, and even more power.
