It wasn’t long ago when you couldn’t venture out in Thornhill, North York, Markham, Richmond Hill, or anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area without coming across plenty of midsize sedans. It isn’t exactly news that SUVs now hold that dominant position in the market, but sedans might be doing better than they are if they were more like the 2024 Cadillac CT5. The 2024 CT5 is a stylish blend of luxury, performance, style, and technology, and the Blackwing is there for those who want something truly ferocious.
Although it can look a little more complicated from some angles, there are effectively five different versions of the 2024 Cadillac CT5. The lineup mirrors the formula of the CT5’s smaller sibling, but the CT5 does everything a little bigger. The standard models are the entry-level CT5 Luxury, the CT5 Premium Luxury, and CT5 Sport. Once again, the Premium Luxury and Sport models share headline billing and the same MSRP.
The following two models in the family place performance even higher up their agenda. The 2024 CT5 V-Series is a relatively modest step up in price and performance from the Premium Luxury and Sport models. Still, the CT5 V-Series Blackwing is very special and deserves its place at the pinnacle of the lineup.
There’s no such thing as an underpowered version of the CT5, but a broad spectrum of performance is available from the 2024 lineup. The standard engine for the Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport models is a 2.0-litre twin-scroll turbo-four that provides the 2024 Cadillac CT5 with 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. If you’d like more power without stepping up to the V-Series, the Premium Luxury trim level is available with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V-6 with 335 horsepower and 405 lb.-ft. of torque.
Those are impressive power outputs, but the CT5 can offer much more. The CT5 V-Series also uses 3.0-litre twin-turbo V-6, but this time it gets tuned to put out 360 horsepower. However, the gap between the V-Series and V-Series Blackwing in the CT5 lineup is more substantial than with the model below in the 2024 Cadillac family. The CT5 V-Series Blackwing boasts a monstrous 6.2-litre V-8 under its hood, putting a massive 668 horsepower and 569 lb.-ft. of torque at your disposal.
It can be difficult for some people to accept that a luxury car can represent good value for money. But when you compare the 2024 CT5 with the competition, it’s tough to reach any other conclusion. Even the awesome CT5 Blackwing represents excellent value when you compare it to rival models capable of reaching 100 kph in three and a half seconds, especially in such style and luxury.
Standard power-adjustable front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 10.0-inch touchscreen, a 12.0-inch digital instrument screen, and 18-inch alloys sound impressive, and they are. But they are part of the standard specification of the entry-level CT5 Luxury. Step up to the V-Series, and the additional standard kit includes a 15-speaker Bose Performance Series audio system, a heated steering wheel, and adaptive cruise control. It also gives access to some of the most high-tech options, such as Super Cruise.
The 2024 Cadillac CT5 can be a sensible, comfortable, well-equipped midsize sedan representing excellent value. However, it can also be a fire-breathing beast of a performance car and anything in between.
