No. We shouldn’t believe in fairy-tales, but if you’re in Thornhill, North York, Markham, Richmond Hill, or anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area and shopping for a new vehicle, you might feel like Goldilocks when you discover the 2024 Cadillac XT5.  It’s not the smallest or largest SUV in the Cadillac lineup, so it’s going to be just right for many shoppers. It can also represent good value for money, which means some shoppers who might generally opt for a high-spec non-luxury rival, will find themselves tempted by the incredible XT5.  Maybe fairy-tales do come true!
It’s hard to think how the 2024 Cadillac XT5 could be easier to configure if you want to place an order for one. There are three trim levels, two drivetrains, two powerplants, and one transmission. Unlike the XT5’s smaller sibling in the current Cadillac lineup, there’s no sharing top-billing in the 2024 XT5 lineup.
The first of the trio of trim levels is the 2024 XT5 Luxury, which is a standard front-wheel-drive model with the option of an all-wheel-drive. The mid-range model is the Premium Luxury, and the top-of-the-range model is the XT5 Sport. The Premium Luxury and Sport models offer similar specifications, apart from the powertrain. The Sport gets the most powerful engine and uprated brakes, suspension, and AWD systems as part of its standard specification. And if you want to make your XT5 Sport even more stylish, Blue Accent, Bronze Accent, and Red Accent appearance packages have been introduced for the 2024 model year.
The standard engine for the 2024 Cadillac XT5 Luxury and Premium Luxury models is a strong 2.0-litre turbo-four that puts out 235 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque and comes mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The XT5 Luxury is front-drive in its standard form with AWD available, but the Premium Luxury is exclusively AWD. However, you can upgrade the XT5 Premium Luxury to a more powerful engine. If you want to tow with your new XT5, the maximum towing capacity is a very useful 1,588 kg (3,500 pounds).
The more powerful engine is a 3.6-litre V-6, providing the XT5 with 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s optional for the Premium Luxury, but it’s the standard unit under the hood of the range-topping XT5 Sport. The 2024 XT5 Sport also has Brembo front performance brakes, a chassis with real-time damping suspension, and a heavy-duty cooling system. The Sport also features a performance suspension setup with on-demand selections that let the driver customize the ride and feel with Tour, AWD, Sport, and Off-Road modes.
Don’t be put off by the “compact” tag of the 2024 Cadillac XT5. The interior is fabulously spacious for a compact offering, and of course, there’s all the comfort and luxury available you’d associate with a Cadillac. There’s plenty of space in the front and rear seats for up to five people, and there’s plenty of room behind the rear seats for cargo in the back. The Luxury features Cadillac’s Inteluxe synthetic leather upholstery, but Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels get the real thing.
Standard features across the lineup include heated front seats, HD rear vision camera, front and rear parking assist, dual-zone climate control, a dual diagonal colour driver information centre, and a Bose sound system. The sound system in the entry model is Bose premium 8-speaker setup, but the other two trim levels get a Bose Performance Series 14-speaker audio system. The infotainment system in all models also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and WiFi hotspot capability.
It doesn’t matter if you usually buy luxury vehicles or not; the 2024 Cadillac XT5 is a great compact crossover SUV that looks sensational, drives superbly, and certainly deserves a closer look.
